The UK – USA trade deal agreed in the first week of July 2025 leaves the UK in a good place and immediate relief for UK manufacturers who export to the USA. The UK remains the ONLY country who have a deal with the USA, giving us a positive way forward.
More than 65,000 UK cars will now benefit from reduced tariffs until 2026 when 100,000 units will see the rewards. This is the total number of exports to the USA in 2024. The foundations are now laid and future transatlantic growth in the trade helps to safeguard the automotive sector.
This could well entice global businesses to invest in automotive in the UK which will lead to more jobs and stability. 8 out of 10 UK produced vehicles are exported every month and this is around 3.5% up on the same period of time last year. 1 in 4 cars are now electric and whilst this is a good step forward, it’s way behind the governments targets. Maybe now the UK can start delivering more on that plan as well, and undoubtedly more recruitment will be needed to meet the growth demands.
Trump may not be your cup of tea, but he certainly knows about business, and moving forward the UK will benefit massively from the close relationship formed. This will undoubtedly lead to a busier industry, more cars being built and more cars ultimately on the roads. UK pricing will be looked at and hopefully the UK consumer will also see the benefit in reduced pricing.
